Following on from our success in 2005, when in partnership with BTIT, BMCS launched the first ever broadcast of Radio Ramadhan in Bristol. In response to requests from the community, once again, BMCS took the helm of Radio Ramadhan in 2010 in partnership with Qur’an Academy. In order to improve Radio Ramadhan, we realised that a new approach was needed and relaunched under the Ramadhan FM brand. Ramadhan FM broadcasted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
With the vast majority of programming in English, the aim of Ramadhan FM was to provide programming that would help to enhance the experience of Ramadhan for listeners and gain more from this special month in the Islamic calendar.
Ramadhan FM broadcast under the 28-day community license during the month of Ramadhan. People from the community were encouraged to produce their own programming and all volunteers were given full training in production and presentation of their own shows.
Highlights from the shows included: > The Message - Interactive Islamic knowledge show
based on the Message magazine > Women’ s Hour - Covering many issues surrounding women in Islam > The Adnan and Waliur Show - Youth based show touching on issues affecting young people today. > Kids Show > Health Show
> Family Zone
> The Education Show
> Qur'an Recitation competition
Other shows highlighted prominent members of the community as well as vox pop interviews with ordinary members of the community.
All of the programmes were made and hosted by volunteers from all ages and backgrounds.
A special heartfelt thanks to the station manager, Sheikh Nagib Khan who ensured that everything ran smoothly. This thanks also extends to Qur’an Academy Bristol who allowed the time for managing the radio station as well as offering their support in running Ramadhan FM.
