Welcome to Bristol Muslim Cultural Society

Bristol Muslim Cultural Society (BMCS) was established in 1986 and is one of the oldest voluntary sector non-profit making organisations in the City. We are based in Easton, at the heart of a culturally diverse inner city area of Bristol.

As a Muslim Cultural Society, our aim is to empower the Muslim community in Bristol and the surrounding area to further the economic (employment, enterprise, training) educational, recreational, cultural and social needs of the Muslim community, while encouraging their active participation in mainstream society, and provide support to interested stakeholders.

Background
Bristol Muslim Cultural Society (BMCS) was established in 1986 to offer local authorities and public bodies an insight into the needs and issues of the Bristol Muslim Community.

BMCS is a non-profit making organisation mainly funded by Bristol City Council (BCC). It is based in Easton, a culturally diverse inner city area of Bristol.

Mission
As a Muslim Cultural Society our mission is to further the economic  (employment, enterprise, training), educational, recreational, cultural and social needs of the Muslim community, while encouraging their active participation in mainstream society and provide support to interested stakeholders.

Our underlying values for the organisation are:

Being aware of and responsive to the changing diversity and demographics of the local community.

 Specific Aims
Improve citizenship skills, participation in society and eradicate barriers to social iinclusion.
Provide awareness of Muslim culture and insight into the issues and challenges facing the community including media representation.
Provide advice, advocacy, information and support.
Build foundations for the successful development of the Muslim community in Bristol.
Regularly monitor and evaluate the services and activities provided by BMCS to ensure relevancy.
Facilitate training and employment opportunities, with particular focus on Muslim youth.
Promote health education and awareness of community specific health issues.
Provide a hub for community based support activities.
Ensure fair representation on research and policy development forums.

Objectives
Empowering the Muslim community to excel as an integral part of modern British society.
Maintain access to a full-time office for community advice, advocacy, information and support.
Link up with partner organisations to provide specialist drop-in sessions.
Provide cultural awareness advice and training to the public, private and voluntary sector.
Provide mentoring for disadvantaged members of the community.
Organise recreational activities and social events.
Build and maintain partnerships with corporate and  community based service providers.
Encourage dialogue, open debate and discussion.
Represent the views of the local Muslim community in response to local, national and international events.
Increase the number of members, volunteers and partner organisations.
Create policy, procedures and manuals to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation.
Develop and introduce new services in response to demands from research and local policy initiatives.
